Lee Ranch and Angus Beef

We have been in the beef business since the ranch was founded in 1896 by my great-grandfather, T.S. Moffett.

My parents moved here after they were married and graduated from Kansas State in 1963.   We raised purebred and commercial Herefords until 1991.   At that point we began to crossbreed to Angus bulls.   Our last black-baldy animals left the ranch this year (2006).

We strive to utilize high-accuracy EPD seedstock for the traits of birthweight and carcass merit.   We believe in moderation in all other traits.   Our herd consists of a number of cows that produce the majority of our herd sires through artificial insemination.   These cows are hand-picked by their own calf-raising ability and rib muscle ultrasound data.  We have been members of US Premium Beef since its inception in 1998.   To date we have consigned over 3000 animals to our shares in that cooperative.   We are proud to have a good track record (below) and strive every day to make it even better.

We sell a large number of replacement females every year.   Please contact us if we can be of any assistance.

Cattle producers make much ado about owning “quality” cattle.   We believe that quality is measured by only one standard – profitability on the rail.  If our customer doesn’t like the product, we have not done our job.  This industry is moving very quickly towards value-based pricing systems.   Lee Ranch cattle will be at the leading edge.
